Before you read the article, kindly note that I am not an English speaking person.  I am not familiar with colloquial language. Hence I request you to pay attention to the content of communication, and not to language proficiency. Purpose of presentation in English, is to approach the maximum number of personnel, around the world.

We have gone through the preliminary information about the mental exercise of introspection. As we understand, Introspection is a tool. This tool is used during the process, Dhyan (ध्यान).  Let us consider the theory ( Basic and Advanced ).

With the help of this exercise, one can peep inside his inner self to observe & inspect the various thought chains roaming in mind, one after the other.   Thoughts of human being mostly revolve around the core theme of “my belongings & myself “. (Me & mine).  Viz. I have done this. I want to do this. I say this. I saw this.  This is my wristwatch. This is my house. This is my car. This is my family. Etc.  Most of the time thoughts originate from this core theme.

In order to acquire deeper knowledge about the cosmic existence, it is necessary to detach our thoughts from this reference of core theme.  After detachment from core theme, One can think about other concepts and experience or feel the cosmic existance. That is the main purpose of Introspection.    Journey of shifting focus from “me & mine” to pure existence Aatmatatva (आत्मतत्व) is the process called Dhyan (ध्यान). Introspection is the tool used during the process.

Fundamentals (The reality within)

Man is emotionally attached to the core theme (me & mine). This feeling, this sensation is Jeevbhav (जीवभाव).  Emotional attachment generated on account of Jeevbhav () is Ego or Ahankar (अहंकार). However, One of the four faculties of Antahkaran (अंतःकरण चातुष्ट्य) is also called Ahankar (अहंकार). This is not the cause of attachment / bond.  This term Ahankar (अहंकार) is confusing. Man is normally not aware of Ahankar (अहंकार) arrising out of Jeevbhav (जीवभाव). However, Ahankar (अहंकार) arrising out of Jeevbhav (जीवभाव) is the main culprit. On account of Jeevbhav (जीवभाव), Soul or Jeevatma (जीवात्मा) is convinced that He is body; His existence is only because of body; He will be nowhere without body.  Here body means complete Body System, consisting of all three bodies. Viz.  Physical body, Subtle body& Causal body. Such convictions are called Dehbuddhi (देहबुध्दी) or Dehbhav (देहभाव).  Assuming ownership of the Body System, Soul or Jeevatma (जीवात्मा) has established relationship with BodySystem, emotionally. Bond is too strong to be destroyed. However, Body System is part of Nature or Prakrutee (प्रकृती), and belongs to Prakrutee (प्रकृती).  Prakrutee (प्रकृती) predefines all events of real life. Viz. when to take birth; when to become young; when to become senior; when to be old; when to be ill; period of illness; when to die, etc. Body has affinity towards Prakrutee (प्रकृती), and follows the master plan, predefined by Prakrutee (प्रकृती). Body System is not interested in bond with Jeevatma (जीवात्मा).  Hence, bond is one sided. It is the case of unilateral love.  Even then, Soul thinks that body belongs to him. He expects and insists that body should last for more than 100 years, in strong and healthy condition; he should be able to use body for enjoyment. However, body does not recognize superiority of Soul. Body does not follow instructions by Soul. It executes the Master plan set by Prakrutee (प्रकृती). Soul strives hard to enjoy various pleasures through his body. With intention of extending life span of body for continued enjoyment of pleasures for a long period, he pampers his Body like anything. Feeds tasty food, feeds various liquids, feeds various medicines, makes body perform various exercises for fitness, etc. With same intention, he prays GOD, offers sacrifices, Pooja, etc. He tries to use blessings from GOD or Parameshwar (परमेश्वर) to satisfy his intentions.

Through non-cooperation by Body, Prakrutee (प्रकृती) tries to communicate to Soul or Jeevatma (जीवात्मा), that you are different from me you belong to Parameshwar (परमेश्वर). Please do not try to build up an affair with me.  Better, go home to Parameshwar (परमेश्वर).  I will follow my master plan. I will never listen to you. As per Master plan, body has to spend some time with you. Do not waste your efforts and energy. However, Soul or Jeevatma (जीवात्मा) is mad after his Body. He does not consider message from Prakrutee (प्रकृती), deliberately.  He demands to Parameshwar (परमेश्वर) or GOD, that this Body is mine. I must must be able to enjoy pleases through my body. You do not deprive me of my right.

The Solution

One should understand these facts and try to mend his thinking style accordingly. One should follow the direction towards Parameshwar (परमेश्वर).  Dhyan (ध्यान) is the process, and Introspection is the tool, for gradually regulating and mending the thoughts.

Man recites name of GOD regularly. Performs prayers, Pooja and other rituals. He utters that he wants to meet Parameshwar (परमेश्वर). However deep inside, his motive is to gain pleasures, wealth & fame. He still holds firm bond with Body System. This bond with body is the major hurdle on path towards Parameshwar (परमेश्वर). He has to release this bond, in order to reach Parmeshwar (परमेश्वर).

Support & Energy supply

Dhyan (ध्यान) is a thought process. Hurdles are also in form of thoughts. Who supports these thoughts? Every action needs power / energy. Who provides power to thought process?

Fact is that individual himself supports his thoughts and builds up thought chains, through arguments and counterarguments (तर्क/ वितर्क) using imagination (कल्पना शक्ती). Emotional attachment of Soul is the cause of support.  The core theme (me & mine) or Jeevbhav (जीवभाव) is the main supporter. Because of support by Jeevbhav (जीवभाव), this emotional mess of me & mine has occurred. Jeevbhav (जीवभाव) is interested in pampering these emotions. He only provides the necessary power.  Jeevbhav (जीवभाव) has encapsulated Aatmatatva (आत्मतत्व).  He draws energy from the unlimited energy stock available with Aatmatatva (आत्मतत्व), and provides the same to the thought process.

This way, individual Soul himself provides energy to thought process. Hence, he only can stop energy supply, if he decides to. No one else can. In absence of energy supply, thought chain continues to play until the balance energy is exhausted. Thereafter thought chain vanishes. Does not exist.

What should be done at ground zero level to stop energy supply?

Reduce or stop giving importance to the thought chain. Do not get involved in the thought chain. Moment you withdraw your involvement, power supply to that thought chain is cut off. When you observe thought chain from third party perspective or as a witness, your involvement will stop. You will no longer be interested in extending the thought chain further. This is the simple way to delete the thought chain from your memory. This way eliminate all irrelevant stored thought chains, one by one. This the method to forget past, and to clean up your mind of prejudices. Since you witness the thought chain, this observation process is called Sakshibhav (साक्षीभाव) or witness perspective. Make sure that you do not think about or try to recollect your observations, subsequently. Otherwise a new thought chain starts. Effect of your efforts nullify. This way you can gradually resolve the old mess.

This is the first stage of achievement, which covers past, or old thought chains.

Next Stage

You now deal with present, or current ongoing real life situations.

Based upon the Master plan of Fate or Prarabdh (प्रारब्ध), and the current situation, inspiration to act pops up on Causal body. Causal body transmits this Inspiration or Prerana (प्रेरणा) on to Chitta (चित्त) or inner mind, located on Subtle Body. Thought chain development process starts on platform of Chitta (चित्त). Observe this thought process, right from the beginning and selectively avoid involvement, in order to cut off power supply.

Not all inspirations are worth discarding. One should compare each inspiration with knowledge concepts, stored in Dharana (धारणा), the ready reckoner, and then decide whether to discard it or not. Normally, mismatches are to be discarded.

When old stock is cleared and new additions are stopped, your mind can become empty, clean, and pure.

Activity of observation & comparing with knowledge concepts is Introspection.

Be alert

New Prerana (प्रेरणा) or Inspiration may pop up any time during 24 hours of day. One should develop habit of performing introspection to keep a watch on upcoming thoughts, all the time. Physical body may be steady or may perform daily real life activities. One can develop this capability, through regular practice of the recommended mental exercise, and performing introspection frequently at random intervals, during daily routine. Develop habit of introspection, during your daily functions. This habit will automatically extend to sleep hours.

Inspirations, generating mental disorders and disturbances, always catch you unaware, and unknowingly wrong act is done, under emotional influence. One must therefore be alert all 24 hours of day, every day.

Tackle the culprit

Causal body  does the job of transmitting Inspiration from Causal Body to Chitta (चित्त), for execution. Jeevbhav (जीवभाव) provides power for this activity. This activity is the starting step. Thus, Jeevbhav (जीवभाव) is responsible for execution of physical action by body. You are not affected, if this Jeevbhav (जीवभाव) is tackled properly. Inspirations will then remain on causal body. They will not move further.

Use method of Sakshibhav (साक्षीभाव), or witness perspective, to withdraw your support and neglect Jeevbhav (जीवभाव).  Existance of Jeevbhav (जीवभाव) is imaginary, or virtual. In absence of power supply, Jeevbhav (जीवभाव) will fade out gradually to disappear. In absence of encapsulation of Jeevbhav (जीवभाव), only Aatmatatva (आत्मतत्व), which is miniature form of Parameshwar (परमेश्वर), is left over. Aatmatatva (आत्मतत्व) then follows path of union, automatically.

Prakrutee (प्रकृती) can take charge of Body System freely without any hindrance. Hence, Body System imbalances gradually disappear. Body System becomes healthy.  Body System draws energy directly from Prakrutee (प्रकृती) or Cosmos and is energetic all the time.

This is the last step of Dhyan (ध्यान). Purpose of Dhyan (ध्यान) is fulfilled here. All these changes takes place at the plane of purified thoughts, Dharana. Hence, Dharana (धारणा) is established first and then Last step of Dhyan (ध्यान) is established. Both are interdependent.

This process of Dhyan (ध्यान) is purely a thought process. This does not involve event of Death at all. One retains his body. Misunderstanding of Aatmatatva (आत्मतत्व) is being sorted out.

I hope that you have now understood working and theory of process, Dhyan (ध्यान), in detail.
